“Eros & Thanatos” was the title of one of my solo exhibitions, held in Milan in 2002, an exhibition particularly dear to me, which has served to clarify my ideas on some aspects of my activity. Each creation requires destruction, and art is no exception, because a marble sculpture is also a destroyed block of stone, as well as a resin sculpture requires the destruction, or to be more scientific the transformation, of many raw materials. And then life, death, love and sex, I could not keep all this out of my androsophy. The following is a half-jokingly writing taken from the catalog of that exhibition, because art to me is creation and recreation. It’s creation because it builds, it adds to the world something that was not there before, it’s recreation because it reinterprets something that already existed. But not only that, it’s recreation also in the sense of relaxation, fun, distraction from the task of life, which is at the same time anticipation and continuation of art. And this is mostly the reason why I do what I do and I am what I am: to create a paradoxical continuum with reality while distracting from it at the same time. —

Figures speak clear: every day, in the world, 100 million intercourses take place. It’s the naked truth; and we all know that truth is not restricted to being naked: it sells itself away. Who has counted all these intercourses and has verified them? How many of these intercourses are really satisfactory? And how many are consenting? Mysteries of statistics. Figures also say that in the world there are more or less 7 billion beings, almost human, which means that every day 6 billion 800 million people do not have sex – obviously there is group sex that alter the average, but that doesn’t change things that much; who knows how many of them have never had intercourses, how many never will and, to the contrary how many of them have fun every single day in spite of the rest of the world population. Besides, considering that there are “only” 350 thousand births each day, we have to deduce that over 99 million of those intercourses fail (which is a real fortune), accomplice the condom, the pill, the coitus interruptus and the lazy sperms; and again thanks to headaches, television and the exhaustion of the Viagra stocks, that lead to avoiding the act all together. Analyses on the subject are, as always, very detailed, they even talk about “excesses” in the births, measured in 7 thousand a day; unfortunately they omit the most important data: name and surname of those exceeding. Obviously there are also over 340 thousand deaths every day but, considering that it is always the best ones to pass away, this news doesn’t cheer us up; as the magic mirror said: “these are things that make one reflect.” Considering that at least half the human actions are finalized to sex and the other half to embank the damages that it causes, it is easy to infer that 100 million daily intercourses are insufficient to the world needs; in fact, I am more than sure that if calculate the number of daily autoerotism acts, we would be in the presence of higher number by far. Could the repression of this insuppressible need be the true cause of all the evil of the world? Sex is vital, but also destructive; in fact, it is said that intercourses are “consumed” (which is however better than what they say about marriage which is “to contract”, as it was an illness), becoming even more destructive when not practised. In fact, good old eros to make damages doesn’t need thanatos; he gets on very well by himself. It is very easy to think of sex as a positive and pleasant thing, and it is. But it is also true that it can be a terrible natural calamity: all it takes is thinking about the venereal diseases, in all their forms, at times deadly; as in the case of the most dangerous of them all: life. Anyway, I have to admit that 100 million of “biblical acquaintances” makes some effects. All in all, can you think about it? Every single day a good 100 million of sexual intercourses; more than 4 million every single hour… And I’m here wasting my time writing rats!

Anche “Eros & Thanatos” è stato il titolo di una mia mostra personale, svoltasi a Milano nel 2002, un’esposizione a me particolarmente cara, che è servita a chiarirmi le idee su alcuni aspetti della mia attività. Ogni creazione presuppone una distruzione, e l’arte non fa eccezione; perché una scultura in marmo è anche un blocco di pietra distrutto, così come una di resina presuppone la distruzione, o per essere più scientifici la trasformazione, di tante materie prime. E poi vita, morte, amore e sesso, non potevo tenere tutto questo fuori dalla mia androsofia. Quello che segue, è il testo tra il serio e il faceto che scrissi per il catalogo della mostra, perché l’arte è per me creazione e ricreazione. Creazione quando costruisce, quando aggiunge al mondo qualcosa che prima non c’era, ricreazione quando rifà, quando reinterpreta qualcosa che già esisteva. Ma non solo, è ricreazione anche nel senso di svago, di distrazione dall’incombenza della vita, che è poi al tempo stesso anticipazione e continuazione dell’arte. Ed è soprattutto per questo che faccio quello che faccio e sono quello che sono: per creare un paradossale continuum con la realtà distraendomi da essa. —

Le cifre parlano chiaro: ogni giorno, al mondo, si compiono 100 milioni di rapporti sessuali. È la nuda verità; e noi tutti sappiamo che ormai la verità non si limita a essere nuda: si prostituisce. Chi ha contato tutti questi rapporti e come li ha verificati? Quanti di questi rapporti sono realmente soddisfacenti? E quanti consenzienti? Misteri delle statistiche. Le cifre però dicono anche che al mondo ci sono circa 7 miliardi di esseri più o meno umani, il che vuol dire che, ogni giorno, ben 6 miliardi 800 milioni di persone vanno in bianco – certo, ci sono i rapporti di gruppo che falsano la media, ma le cose non cambiano poi tanto; chissà poi quanti di loro non hanno mai avuto rapporti, quanti non ne avranno mai e quanti invece si danno da fare ogni santo giorno in barba al resto della popolazione mondiale. Inoltre, considerando che ci sono “solo” 350 mila nascite al giorno, dobbiamo dedurre che oltre 99 milioni di quei rapporti sessuali vadano a vuoto (il che è una vera fortuna), complici il preservativo, la pillola, il coito interruptus e gli spermatozoi pigri; senza contare i mal di testa, la televisione e l’esaurimento delle scorte di Viagra, che fanno addirittura evitare il rapporto. Le analisi in merito sono come sempre molto dettagliate, si parla addirittura di “eccedenze” nelle nascite, valutate in misura di 7 mila al giorno; purtroppo mancano i dati più importanti: nomi e cognomi degli eccedenti. Certo, di contro ci sono anche gli oltre 340 mila decessi giornalieri ma, visto che se ne vanno sempre i migliori, questa notizia non ci rallegra; come disse lo specchio delle mie brame: “Sono cose che fanno riflettere.” Considerando che almeno una metà delle azioni umane è finalizzata al sesso e l’altra metà ad arginare i danni da esso causati, è facile rendersi conto che 100 milioni di rapporti quotidiani sono insufficienti al fabbisogno mondiale; infatti, sono certo che se facessimo il conteggio dei rapporti autoerotici giornalieri, ci troveremmo al cospetto di numeri ben più alti. Che sia la mancata soddisfazione di questo bisogno insopprimibile la vera causa di tutti i mali del mondo? Il sesso è vitale, ma anche distruttivo; infatti, si dice che i rapporti sessuali si “consumano” – che è sempre meglio di quello che capita col matrimonio, che addirittura si “contrae”, come fosse un virus. Diventando ancor più distruttivo quando non praticato. In realtà il buon vecchio “Eros” per fare danni non ha bisogno di “Thanatos”; se la cava benissimo da solo. È molto facile pensare al sesso come a una cosa positiva e piacevole, certo che lo è. Ma è anche vero che si tratta di una terribile calamità naturale: basta pensare alle malattie veneree, in tutte le loro forme molteplici e variopinte, a volte addirittura mortali; come nel caso della malattia sessualmente trasmessa più pericolosa di tutte, la vita. Eppure, devo ammettere che 100 milioni di “conoscenze bibliche” fanno comunque un certo effetto… Insomma, ci pensate? Ogni singolo giorno ben 100 milioni di rapporti sessuali; più di 4 milioni ogni singola ora… Ed io qui a perder tempo a scrivere stupidaggini!
