“No Commercial Value” was the title of a solo exhibition held in Milan in 2003. The exhibition provided a final performance with the destruction of some of my works, which expired just the closing day of the exhibition. Some of the works of this guideline are then gone, destroyed.
Works of art often live for the exhibitions, they have the duration of an exhibit, then, like foodstuffs, they expire. After the show no one will care for them, they become outdated, replaced by other works, other exhibitions.
Just like human beings. We exist as long as we are displayed, “exposed on the booth of life, poised between being sold and be bought” (self-quote), maybe for the warholian 15 minutes of fame, past this time, the spotlight moves elsewhere, and shadow engulfs us.
As objects with no commercial value, representative and nothing more. As parcels sent by a delivery, which is both been born and been sent, to the usual end of life.
And as such we are regarded and treated by those who delude themselves to be able to escape this logic with the force of power, be it long-term, institutional, political, economic, religious, or ephemeral as that exerted by a bully, a rapist, a violent one.

“Campioni Senza Valore” è stato il titolo di una mia mostra personale, svoltasi a Milano nel 2003. La mostra prevedeva una performance finale con la distruzione di alcune delle opere esposte, che scadevano appunto il giorno di chiusura della mostra; alcune delle opere di questa linea guida sono quindi andate distrutte.
Le opere d’arte spesso vivono per le mostre, hanno la durata dell’esposizione, dopodiché, come generi alimentari, scadono, finita la mostra a nessuno interesserà più di loro, saranno superate, sostituite da altre opere, da altre mostre.
Proprio come accade a noi esseri umani, che esistiamo finché siamo in mostra, “esposti sul bancone della vita, in bilico tra l’esser venduti e il venir comprati” (autocitazione), magari per i warholiani 15 minuti di celebrità; passato questo momento, il riflettore si sposta altrove, e l’ombra ci sommerge.
Come campioni senza valore, rappresentativi e nulla più. Come pacchi spediti da un parto, che è appunto partenza, verso la solita destinazione di fine vita.
E come tali siamo considerati e trattati da chi si illude di sottrarsi a questa logica con la forza del potere, sia esso duraturo, istituzionale, politico, economico, religioso, oppure effimero come quello esercitato da un bullo, da uno stupratore, da un violento.
